If you are anything like me, you stressed the fu*k out about sleep when you were pregnant! I know everyone loves sleep, but I come from a long line of professional sleepers, so to me, this was straight up going to be life altering! My husband jokes that I can sleep anywhere (within reason, ya know). So, baby comes and like I said, I was a literal mess. My anxiety would start to bubble up once the sun started to go down. I would truly panic and cry at the thought of nighttime because I knew my sweet little, bad sleeper, angel baby would keep me up all night. Guess what, she did! After about 2 months of misery, I finally said that enough was enough and I learned about sleep shaping, and it was life changing! After that, she was the best sleeper ever.

Fast forward to 2 years later, I get pregnant again with my second. You bet your ass that I was determined to do things different when baby was born. Those first 2 weeks are just survival mode, but once he hit 2 weeks old, the healthy sleep habits ship set sail! And no, I wasn’t making my 2-week-old baby go 12 hours without eating at night. I was just slowly getting him on a predictable eat, play, sleep schedule and a cozy little bedtime routine. From there everything just fell into place. By 12 weeks he was sleeping though the night from 7-7. Does this sound amazing to you?

Establishing healthy sleep habits for your newborn is an important step towards helping them develop good sleep patterns. While it may take some time for them to settle into a consistent routine, there are a few strategies that I help you follow to encourage healthy sleep habits from the start.

I have a secret…I was you.

I was tired of being tired! I was a walking zombie who couldn’t wait for the sun to come up because that meant it was time to be awake. I was no longer sitting in the dark, alone, in my newborn’s room in the rocking chair feeling completely overwhelmed and anxious. Every night when the sun would start to go down, I would literally start panicking because I knew I wasn’t going to get any sleep and I wouldn’t be in my own bed. I needed to do something about it - not just for me, but for my mental health. I didn’t know what I was going to do once I started back to work full-time. I was panicked about being up all night and then having to be a functioning human being at the office. I just knew that this was not a sustainable lifestyle.

With the help of Google and influencers on Instagram (HA!), I found out what sleep shaping was and how it was completely life changing. Girl, let me tell you, IT IS LIFE CHANGING!
